Lesson by A Jones

Learning Intentions:

  • To be able to talk about airplanes.
  • To be able to count forwards and backwards using numbers 1-10.

Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils

In this activity there are two short videos (approximately five minutes) for your child to watch.

The activities can be completed on different days and are offline.

Resources needed: recyclable materials such as cardboard tubes and boxes.

Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information

Start by watching the video ‘Amazing Airplanes’ by Tony Mitton and Ant Parker on the link below:

Airplanes can take us on holidays to different countries.

Have you ever been in an airplane? If yes where did you fly to?

Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity

Activity 1: Counting forwards and backwards using numbers 1 – 10.

Join in with the counting song below; counting forwards and backwards 1-10 and 10-1.

This song can be repeated daily to support learning.

 Activity 2: Make an airplane:

Using recyclable materials, for example, cardboard tubes and cardboard boxes, make your own airplane. Talk about the 3D shapes used such as cylinders and cuboids (to introduce shape names).

Decorate your airplane and take it on a journey around your home.

Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.

Step 4: Look over the success criteria for this activity: Success criteria #1:  I can talk about airplanes.

Success criteria #2:  I can count to 10.

Success criteria #3:  I can count backwards from 10.

Look at the learning intentions ‘how well do you think you have done?’
