Lesson by Olivia Davies
Learning Intentions:
- To know what sound the letter ‘r’ can make.
- To be able to find objects beginning with the phoneme ‘r’.
- To be able to write the letter ‘r’ correctly.
Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils
There is an introductory video (approximately six minutes) to watch with your child. This video introduces the sound of the week and also contains a story to support the learning. It is important for your child to be able to recognise letters and the sounds that they can make. There is a selection of short activities linked to the sound of the week for you to choose from. Many of these can be repeated several times during the week to help to consolidate your child’s learning. Regular short bursts of learning are the most effective for phonics.
There is also a support sheet that can be downloaded and printed if you have access to a printer. However, printing is not essential to complete the activity.
Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information
Listen to the video clip below to find out about our sound of the week ‘r’ and listen to the story ‘10 Little Robots’ by Mike Brownlow and Simon Rickerty.
- Practise the sound of the week ‘r’ everyday. Look at the picture below to help you.
Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity
