Learning Intentions:
- To listen to a story and song and join in.
- To recreate the story with own toys.
Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils
To support your child’s speaking and listening skills there are two short videos (approximately four minutes in total), a story and a song.
The main activity can be completed offline.
Resources needed include some soft toys / dolls etc.
Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information
First listen to the story, ‘Teddy Bears Picnic’ words by Jimmy Kennedy on the link below.
Discuss the story by asking:
- Did you enjoy the story?
- Would you like to be in the woods when the teddy bears are having a picnic?
- Would you like to have a picnic?
- Were the teddy bears tired at the end of the story?
Now join in with the song ‘Teddy Bears Picnic’ sung by Anne Murray by clicking on the link below
Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity
Activity 1: Making a den
- Create a den area by either putting a sheet over a table or a few chairs or you can create your own.
- Arrange your soft toys / dolls in a small circle but remember room for yourself.
- Act out the story / song by pretending you are all the teddies having a picnic in the woods.
Allow your child time to be imaginative and to retell the story in their own way.
Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.
Step 4: Look over the success criteria for this activity:
Success criteria #1: I can follow a story.
Success criteria #2: I can join in with a song.
Success criteria #3: I can act out the story.
Look at the learning intentions ‘how well do you think you have done?’
