Learning Intentions:
- To recognise the colour red.
- To find red things.
- To tell something a fire engine/firefighters do to help us.
Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils
In this activity there is a short video (approximately three minutes) for your child to watch. The activities can be completed on different days and are offline.
Resources needed: paper, red crayons, felt tip pens and small construction materials like Lego or small bricks.
Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information
Start by watching the video ‘Flashing Fire Engines’ by Tony Mitton and Ant Parker on the link below:
Discuss the different ways how firefighters help us.
Discuss the fire engine:
- How big is it?
- What colour is it?
- Where would we find fire engines, do they have a special home?
Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity
Activity 1: Finding red things:
Walk around your home and get your child to find things that are the colour red.
With a red pencil or crayon write the word red and get your child to draw something that they found that was red in your home.
This activity can be completed every day with a different colour.
Activity 2: Making a fire engine:
With construction materials like Duplo, Lego or small bricks get your child to make a fire engine and then using the model tell you how the fire engine helped someone.
Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.
Step 4: Look over the success criteria for this activity:
Success criteria #1: I can find some red things.
Success criteria #2: I can make a fire engine.
Success criteria #3: I can tell someone how the fire engine/firefighters have helped someone.
Look at the learning intentions ‘how well do you think you have done?’
