Lesson by A Jones

Learning Intentions:

  • I can count to 10
  • I can recognise and read numbers 1 to 5
  • I can count out up to 5 objects correctly.

Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils

During this activity your child will be learning to count, recognise and represent numbers 1-5.Children can often count forward confidently beyond 5.  But when counting out actual objects they can miscount by counting aloud quicker than they place down the objects.

For the practical activity, you will need:

  • Numbers 1 to 5 written on separate pieces of paper or post it notes
  • A variety of small objects e.g. small bricks, pasta, pencils etc.

There is a short two-minute online story and a counting song to share with your child.

There is also an online game, which is optional.

The main activity can be completed offline.

Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information

Let start by listening to a short story about Spot counting numbers. Click on the button below.

Don’t forget to count along with Spot.

Now join in with the song ‘Five Little Ducks’ by clicking on the button below. Use your fingers to show the number of ducks as you sing along.

Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity
