Learning Intentions:
- To count and write numbers to ten.
Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils
Most of the activities can be completed indoors however, one does require an outdoor space.
For this activity you can start by watching a counting video created especially for this lesson.
This is a very practical session, you will need a few simple resources e.g. post it notes or small squares of paper and a box, bag or other container for the main activity.
There is a short video sing-a-long activity to finish this session it is approximately two minutes.
Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information
This activity is designed to reinforce counting and number formation to ten in a fun and energetic way. If possible complete the activities outdoors. You can easily extend the activities by asking for one more or one less than the chosen number.
Watch the short video below.
You could complete this activity over several days.
Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity
Activity 1
- Before you start you will need to add numbers one to ten into a bag/pot. (These can be written on post it notes or maybe magnetic numbers).
- The main activity involves pulling a number out of the bag and then find the matching number of objects in your garden/home. For example, if the number is 3 then they might find 3 leaves or 3 daisies. If you are playing the game indoors use lego, toys or food.
Activity 2 – Outdoors
- Let’s try magic painting now. Shout out a number and let your child paint it using a paintbrush and water. They can paint on a patio slab or shed door. When the water quickly evaporates the children think it’s magically disappeared.
Activity 3
- Begin by singing the counting songs on the video. It’s always a good idea to use your fingers when counting to ten.
Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.
Step 4: Look over the success criteria for this activity:
Success criteria #1: I can count to 10.
Success criteria #2: I can write numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5.
Success criteria #3: I can write numbers 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.
Look at the learning intentions ‘how well do you think you have done?’
