Lesson by F Davis

Learning Intentions:

To observe and record the weather

Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils

There is a short video song (approximately two minutes) to start the activity. The activity is practical and is recorded offline. You will need either separate pieces of paper which can be made into a book or a large piece of paper divided into seven columns with the days of the week written at the top. Record the weather for one week.

Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information

Watch and join in with the weather song below.

Talk about different weather systems we have with your child and how they are represented.

Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity

Activity 1: Observing the weather

  • Either go in the garden or look outside at the weather.
  • Ask your child what they think the weather is doing.
  • On paper get your child to record the weather by drawing a picture using pencils / crayons.
  • Complete the activity every day for a week.
  • At the end of the week can your child say how many days were sunny, cloudy etc.

Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.

Step 4: Look over the success criteria for this activity:

Success criteria #1:  I know simple weather vocabulary

Success criteria #2:  I can keep a weather diary

Look at the learning intentions ‘how well do you think you have done?’
