Learning Intentions:

  • To learn about another country.
  • To be able to discuss two different flags.
  • To create my own flag.

Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils

This activity gives an introduction to another country. (France)

There is a short video story approximately two minutes to support the learning.

There is also an opportunity to explore Paris online. You can spend as much time as you feel appropriate looking around Paris.

The main activities can be completed offline.

Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information

This activity will tell you a little a about France. You will be visiting Paris the capital city of France. Start with a story that takes us to Paris with a little girl and her family who tour the city where ‘Everybody Bonjours’. (This means hello).

You can now have look at some pictures of pictures of Paris in France as if you are really there. Click on the button below.

 Visit Paris

Talk with your family about what you have seen.

Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity Activity 1 – Make a poster

  • Make a poster about Paris. Include some of the places your saw in the story.
  • Don’t forget to label the places in your poster.

 Activity 2 – Flag of France

French-and-Welsh-Flags

Look at the picture above of the French and Welsh flags.

  • What colours make up the French flag?
  • What colours make up the Welsh flag?
  • What else do you notice about the flags?

Can you design your own flag?

  • What colours will you use?
  • Your flag could have a picture, patterns, shapes etc.
  • Now draw your flag.
  • You might like to attach a stick to your flag so that you can wave it.

Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 6.

Step 4: Look over the success criteria for this activity:

Success criteria #1:  I know a few things about France.

Success criteria #2:  I can discuss two different flags.

Success criteria #3:  I can create my own flag.

Step 5: Extension and follow on activities/challenges (optional)

Activity 3 – Go on a tour of the Eiffel tower

Can you make your own model of the Eiffel tower out of recyclable material?
