Learning Intentions:

  • To explore 2D shape in the home and garden

Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils

In this activity there is a short video which is approximately three minutes long to support the learning. The main activities can be completed offline.

Watch the story again. Join in with the song and create a shape dance.

  • How many shapes can you make?
  • Can you teach your dance to your family?

 

Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity

Activity 1

Go on a 2D shape hunt around your house.

  • What shapes did you find?
  • Can you draw an object of each of the following 2D shapes?

– circle

– square

– triangle

– rectangle

 Activity 2 – Shapes in food.

  • Can you make a healthy lunch and cut your food into interesting shapes?
  • Does it taste better?
  • Which shaped food is the easiest to pack into your lunchbox?
  • Why do you think that is?

Challenge: Write a sentence or two about the shape that fits best in your lunch box and why you think that is.

Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 6.

Success criteria #1:  I can find 2D shapes.

Success criteria #2:  I can describe 2D shapes.

Success criteria #3:  I can create a shape dance.

Look at the learning intentions ‘how well do you think you have done?’

Activity 3

Go into your garden collect some sticks, pebbles, small stones and leaves.

  • What 2D shapes can you make using them?
  • Which shapes are easiest to make using the sticks?
  • Which objects are best for making a circle?
