Lesson by Leanne Wainwright

Learning Intentions:

  • To be able to say what I am good at and why.
  • To know what makes me special.

Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils

In this activity there is a video story (approximately five minutes long). At the end of the story the author talks about some activities that you could do with your child. However, there are appropriate activities planned for within this session. There is a three-page PowerPoint to support the activities.

Resources:

  • Plain or coloured paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Tin foil
  • Lollypop stick

Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information

Click link below to listen to the story ‘Marvelous Me’ by Lisa Bullard.

Have a discussion about what makes you special for example:

  • I am a good friend
  • I am kind
  • I am polite
  • I am good at…

Encourage your child to give reasons:

  • I am a good friend because…
  • I am kind because…etc.

How many lovely things could you think of? I am sure there were lots of different things.

Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity

Activity 1- Mirror, Mirror, Positive Me

Look at the information below on how to make a Positive Me Mirror or sunflower.

Follow the instructions to make your own Positive Me Mirror or sunflower – thinking about all the things you discussed earlier.

Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.

Step 4: Look over the success criteria for this activity:

Success criteria #1:  I can talk about things I am good at.

Success criteria #2:  I can create a Positive Me Mirror or sunflower.

Success criteria #3:  I know what makes me special.

Look at the learning intentions ‘how well do you think you have done?’
