Learning Intentions:
To learn the days of the week in Welsh.
Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils
Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information
Shwmae!
Do you remember how to say some of the days of the weeks in Welsh? Let’s practise by taking a look at the video below. We’ll go over each one individually. Try to say the day out loud during the slight pause.
Can you remember them?
Dydd Llun – Monday
Dydd Mawrth – Tuesday
Dydd Mercher – Wednesday
Dydd Iau – Thursday
Dydd Gwener – Friday
Dydd Sadwrn – Saturday
Dydd Sul – Sunday
Now that you’ve practised the days of the week it’s time for you to join in with some singing. Watch S4C’s Cyw clip below. Join in with the song when you’re ready!
Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity
- Practise saying the days of the week using the video clip.
- Listen to the song ‘Dyddiau’r Wythnos’ and join in when you’re ready. Perhaps you could record yourself singing along to impress your teacher.
- Answer the question ‘Pa ddydd yw hi heddiw?’ (What day is it today?). You could practise asking and answering this in Welsh every day so that you’re really good at your days of the week in Welsh. Pob lwc!
Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.
Step 4: Look over the success criteria for this activity:
Success criteria #1: I can understand and recite the days of the week in Welsh.
Success criteria #2: I can join in with a familiar song.
Look at the learning intentions ‘how well do you think you have done?’
