Lesson by Cath Rees WSL
Learning Intentions:
- To name colours in Welsh.
- To respond to the question ‘Pa liw?’ (What colour?)
- To use ‘Ga i ____?’ (Can I have?) to ask for a colour in Welsh.
Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils
Today’s main activity can either be completed offline using paper and colours or you may choose to complete the task using JIT draw on Hwb. Hopefully, once you have completed this activity you will have the confidence to name colours in Welsh and use ‘Ga i ____? when asking for something when you are completing different day-to-day activities at home.
Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information
Today we are going to spend time revising our colours in Welsh. Please listen to and join in with the video to practise naming colours in Welsh. You can pause and rewind the video as much as you want to practise. During the video you will notice that we will also be focusing on two question patterns: Ga i _____? (‘Can I have ____?’) and ‘Pa liw?’ (What colour?) Please use these questions with your child whilst they are completing the main task so that they can familiarise themselves with the questions and be able use them independently in the future.
Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity
- Before you begin the main activity, sing along with the ‘Lliwiau’r enfys’ song on youtube:
Main Activity– Once you have watched the Lliwiau video introduction and sang along to the Lliwiau’r enfys song you will need to create a picture of a rainbow. You can choose to either use paper and coloured pencils/felts/crayons or you may want to complete the task online using JIT draw on Hwb. Once you have completed your picture, remember to create a video recording of you naming the colours you’ve used in Welsh.
Next, collect some different coloured objects you have around the house. Play a game with your child. Hold up an object and ask ‘Pa liw?’ encourage your child to respond in Welsh by naming the colour. You could then swap roles where your child holds up an object asking ‘pa liw?’ and you respond by naming the colour in Welsh.
Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 6.
Step 4: Look over the success criteria for this activity:
Success criteria #1: I can name colours in Welsh.
Success criteria #2: I can respond to the question ‘Pa liw?’ (What colour?)
Success criteria #3: I can use ‘Ga i ____?’ (Can I have?) to ask for a colour in Welsh.
Look at the learning intentions ‘how well do you think you have done?’
Step 5: Extension and follow on activities/challenges (optional)
Challenge yourselves to complete the online rainbow by matching the numbers on the paint pots to the numbers on the rainbow. Remember to name the colours and numbers in Welsh.
