Lesson by the PDCS
Learning Intentions:
- To be able to write a poem.
- To use capital letters and full stops.
Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils
In this activity there is a short video, approximately one minute long. There are also two templates to view to support the learning.
The activities can be completed offline and on different days.
Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information
While you watch the short video below use your senses.
- What do you see?
- What can you hear?
Use your imagination while watching. If you were standing in the field with the lambs; what do you think you might smell? If you could touch the lambs, what do you think they might feel like?
Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity
Activity 1
Thinking about the spring lambs that you have just watched. Talk to your parent/carer about what you saw and heard in the video. Can you write a poem about the lambs we have just seen?
You could use this template to help you:
I can see…
I can hear…
I can see…
I can hear…
Activity 2
Now go outside if you have a garden or open a window if you haven’t, listen carefully, what can you hear? Look around, what do you see? Can you feel the breeze? What can you smell?
Talk to your parent/carer about what you can see, hear, feel and smell.
Now try and write your own short poem, remember to use a capital letter at the start of your sentence and a full stop at the end.
You could use this template to help you:
I can see …
I can hear …
I can feel …
I can smell…
Here is an example of a poem written about spring.
I can see the spring lambs dancing in the green fields,
I can smell the beautiful yellow daffodils, dancing in the breeze,
I can hear the garden mowers, buzzing as they cut the grass
I can feel the fresh breeze, brushing my nose
Activity 3
Draw a picture to illustrate your poem about spring.
