Learning Intentions:
- To recognise the changes in the weather and seasons.
- To recognise effects the different seasons have on some animals and plants.
Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils
In this activity there are two videos, approximately seven minutes in total.
The main activity can be completed offline.
Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information
This activity focuses on the season of spring. It will encourage children to recognise the different things that change as the weather gets warmer and spring arrives. What signs that spring is coming do you know? Think about the flowers, plants, animals, weather, how people dress and the special events that occur such as Easter. Listen to the spring music and pictures ‘Britain in springtime’ by BBC Teach on the link below:
Join in with the spring song on the link below:
Talk about what you saw in the video:
- What was the weather like?
- What animals did you see?
- Which flowers did you like the best? Why?
Can you name the other seasons?
Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity
Activity 1
Draw a spring picture and write a few sentences to describe your picture.
Remember to use capital letters at the start of your sentences and full stops at the end of a sentence.
Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.
Step 4: Look over the success criteria for this activity:
Success criteria #1: I know spring is one of the four seasons.
Success criteria #2: I can draw a spring picture.
Success criteria #3: I can write a few sentences using capital letters and full stops.
Look at the learning intentions ‘how well do you think you have done?’
