In this activity there are two videos, a story ‘The Colour Monster’ by Anna Llenas and a video discussing emotions (approximately eight minutes in total) to support the learning.The activities can be completed on and offline.
The activities can be completed on different days.
Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information
Start by watching and listening to the story ‘The Colour Monster’ by Anna Llenas on the link below. This book will share a range of emotions with you and hopefully encourage you to open up even when you are feeling a little blue.
What did you think of the story?
What emotions do you know? Are they happy or sad?
Watch the video below and discuss the different emotions the characters are experiencing with a family member.
Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity
Activity 1
Design and make your ‘Colour Monster’.
Decide what materials you are going to use to make your ‘Colour Monster’. For example, recyclable materials, crayons, paint or an online art tool.
- Design your ‘Colour Monster’, think about the features and qualities that will allow him/her express how they are feeling. Be as creative as possible.
- Either make with recyclable materials and decorate
Or
- Colour and decorate your ‘Colour Monster’.
Activity 2
Writing a description
- Start by making a list of describing words linked to appearances, qualities and emotions.
- Write a character description of your ‘Colour Monster’ using adjectives and descriptive sentences.
Think about the following questions:
– What do they look like?
– What is their personality like?
– How are they feeling?
Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.
