Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils
In this activity there is a video, approximately five minutes to support the learning.
Resources: paper and pencils/crayons and some recyclable materials.
The main activities can be completed offline and on different days.
Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information
In this story there are opportunities to sequence and ordinal numbers such as where did the train stop first, second etc.
Start this activity by listening to ‘Magic Train’ ride by Barefoot Books Singalong on the link below:
Discuss the story:
- What was your favourite part and why?
- Who were your favourite characters and why?
- Have you been on a train? If yes where did you go?
Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity
Activity 1
Draws some pictures to show the beginning, some of the stations visited and the end of the story.
See if you can either label or write a few sentences about your pictures.
Activity 2
Use recyclable materials to make you own train to take on your own magical adventure.
- Where did your journey start?
- What station did you visit first, second and last?
Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 6.
Step 4: Look over the success criteria for this activity:
Success criteria #1: I can follow a sequence in a story.
Success criteria #2: I can sequence events.
Success criteria #3: I understand some ordinal numbers.
Look at the learning intentions ‘how well do you think you have done?’
Step 5: Extension and follow on activities/challenges (optional)
Activity 3
Design a ticket to go on the magic train ride. Remember to put the price, destination, the date; there is lots to think about.
