Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils
This activity requires parent / carer support as children will be using scissors. There is a video (approximately eight minutes) to watch. The activities can be completed on different days.The main activity is offline and practical.
You will need the following resources to complete the activity: cardboard tubes, felt tip pens or crayons and scissors.
Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information
To start this activity watch the video story below of the ‘Fairy Hairdresser and the Princess and the Frog’ written and read by Abie Longstaff.
Discuss the story:
- How many characters in the story did you recognise?
- Who was your favourite character?
- Did you dislike anyone?
- How would you decorate a float if you had one?
Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity
Activity 1
Make your own cardboard tube models for hairdressing.
This activity requires parent / carer support.
Begin by reading through the PowerPoint below.
Follow the instructions on the five slides and get creating your own cardboard tube models.
Create your own imaginative hairdressing salon with your cardboard tube models.
Activity 2
Draw a picture and write a few sentences to retell the story of the ‘Fairy Hairdresser and the Princess and the Frog’ written by Abie Longstaff.
Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.
Step 4: Look over the success criteria for this activity:
Success criteria #1: I can listen to a story.
Success criteria #2: I can discuss different parts and characters of the story.
Success criteria #3: I can create my own cardboard tube models.
