Lesson by Jennie Morris

Learning Intentions:

To count to 100 in Welsh using money and raffle tickets.

Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils

The purpose of this lesson is to:- Count in tens and units up to 100;

We’ll begin watching a short introductory video before asking you to create a role play shop to practise this language.

Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information

Shwmae! Let’s start by watching this video clip on counting to 100.

Can you count to 100 in Welsh?

Find some 10p and 1p coins as they will help you to add different amounts. When you’ve found some, watch the video clip below to practise saying different amounts.

Can you practise saying a few more amounts in Welsh?

Remember if you forget the word in Welsh then it’s ok to say it in English.  It’s more important that you are trying!

Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity

  1. Make raffle tickets to 100 and sell them to family for 10p for a strip of 10 and 1p for individual tickets. Remember to ask how many raffle tickets they would like using “Sawl un?” – How many? Remember to count in Welsh as well.
  2. Think of a job that you can do for the winning raffle ticket.  (Such as help clean a car or tidy a bedroom!)

Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 6.

Step 4: Look over the success criteria for this activity:

Success criteria #1:  I can count to 100 in Welsh using money and raffle tickets.

Success criteria #2:  I can count in tens and units up to 100

Look at the learning intentions ‘how well do you think you have done?’

Step 5: Extension and follow on activities/challenges (optional)

You can practise counting to 100 using money too.  Why not set up a shop in your house or garden using the challenge card. You can do this by collecting tins from your kitchen and making price tags.

You can practise asking these questions:

Faint ydy e?’ – How much is it?

Beth ydy’r pris?’ – What’s the price?
