Learning Intentions:

Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils

This is a cooking activity that will need to be supervised by an adult.

There is a short video. (Approximately four minutes) The main activities can be completed offline.

The recipe is presented as a five page PowerPoint.

Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information

Let’s start by finding out how to tell the difference between fruit and vegetables.

Now you know how to work out if something is a fruit or vegetable.

Were there any that surprised you?

Can you say if the following are fruits or vegetables?

  • Carrot
  • Potato
  • Pea
  • Tomato
  • Apple
  • Lettice

Tip –

A fruit grows from the flower of the plant and contains the seeds.

A vegetable it comes from the other parts of the plant e.g. root, leaves, stem or flower buds.

It is important to remember that not all plants are edible and not all parts of a plant are edible.

Today we are going to use some blueberries to make some blueberry muffins.

Have a look at a blueberry is it a fruit or a vegetable?
