Learning Intentions:

  • To be able to recognise and name different shapes.
  • To be able to recognise different lines.
  • To create a pattern using different shapes and lines.

 

Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils

In this activity there is a video (approximately nine minutes), however the last section (approximately three minutes) on 3D shapes is not needed for the activity but is useful reminder of the names of these shapes.The main activity can be completed offline.

 

Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information

Watch the video below on geometric shapes and lines and note down some of the shapes and lines you like:

 Talk about the different shapes and lines in the video and how they can be used together to create a colourful piece of art:

  • Shapes can overlap.
  • Shapes can be repeated.
  • The shapes can be of different sizes.
  • Lines can be used to decorate the shapes.

 

Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity

Activity 1

  • Using the shapes and lines that you liked start creating your shape and line pattern on paper.
  • Be creative, remember shapes can overlap and use lines to decorate some shapes.
  • Use bright colours, different shades etc.

Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.

 

Step 4: Look over the success criteria for this activity: 

Success criteria #1:  I can recognise and name different shapes.

Success criteria #2:  I can recognise different lines.

Success criteria #3:  I can create a piece of art using shapes and lines.
