Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information
Picasso was an artist who used a lot of shapes in his pictures. Click on the link below for a story ‘Picasso Loves Shapes’ by Judiee which also includes an introduction to Picasso.
Did you notice how Picasso used shapes in his paintings?
When Picasso painted a lot of his paintings in blue, how did people think Picasso was feeling?
When he used a lot of pink in his paintings, how did people think Picasso was feeling?
Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity
Activity 1 – Making pictures from shapes.
- Decide what your picture is going to be about. E.g. A house with a garden, people in a park, a train in the station etc.
- Use the gummed shapes to make your picture.
- If you do not have any gummed shapes you could draw around some shapes, colour them in and then carefully cut them out and stick them onto another piece of paper to make your picture.
Activity 2 – A picture within a shape
- Draw a large shape onto a piece of paper.
- Now turn this shape into a picture, for example by drawing more shapes inside the large shape to make a face as in the story.
Activity 3 – Recreate a Picasso painting
Look at the examples below of some pictures painted by Picasso.
- Choose one of these pictures.
- Paint or draw your own version of the picture you have chosen.
Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.
