Learning Intentions:
- To be able to discuss our world – the past, present and future.
- To make a time capsule.
Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils
In this activity, there is a short instructional video (approximately three minutes).
The main activity can be completed offline.
Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information
A time capsule is a container that is filled with familiar objects considered to be typical of today. The container can then be hidden indoors or buried outdoors and re-opened in years to come. The contents can then be studied in the future.
Think of it as a present for the future.
This video has been created just for you. Watch the video and learn how to make a time capsule.
Follow the step by step instructions in the video to create your very own time capsule. This is a lovely ‘hands on’ activity to enjoy as a family.
Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity
Activity 1
- Discuss with your family what is important to you, how life might have changed in the past 20 years.
- Watch the video on how to make a time capsule together.
- Decide whether you plan to hide your time capsule indoors or outdoors. Then choose a suitable container.
- Begin filling your time capsule with relevant items. These are all listed in the video to help you.
- Don’t forget to seal, sign and date the capsule before hiding it.
Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.
