Lesson by A Ford

Learning Intentions:

  • To be able to re-tell a traditional tale.
  • To make a boat or raft that will float for the Gingerbread Man.

Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils

In this activity there is a story video approximately four minutes long.

The main activity can be completed offline.

Resources:

Recyclable materials to make a small boat or raft.

Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information

Let us start today by listening to the story of the Gingerbread Man.

What animals chased the Gingerbread Man?

Which animal did the Gingerbread Man meet first?

Which animal did the Gingerbread Man meet last?

This story had a bit of a sad ending.

Can you think of an alternative ending to the story that might allow for the Gingerbread Man to get across the river to safety?

Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity

Activity 1 – Story writing

Write your own version of the Gingerbread Man story.

  • Who chases your Gingerbread Man?
  • What does he do or who does he meet when he gets to the river?
  • Does your Gingerbread Man get away?

Draw a picture to illustrate your story.

Remember to use capital letters and full stops.

Activity 2 – Make a boat or raft

Make a boat or raft for the Gingerbread Man so that he can get across the river.

  • Using recyclable materials can you make a boat to take the Gingerbread Man across the river?
  • Test your boat in the bath or the sink.
  • Did your boat float or sink?

Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.
