Y3 > English > Science_Technology > Science > Poetry – Food chains Part 2

Lesson by Maria Cox

Learning Intentions:
To use knowledge of food chains to create a poem.

Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils

This activity is a continued activity from Food Chains part 1 where you have learned all about what food chains are. Below is a video of the song/poem ‘There was an old woman who swallowed a fly….’. Use the attached pdf to create your own version using food chains. Remember you need to swallow a producer (eg. Plant) first, then a consumer and so on. Enjoy.

If you are confident record yourself singing the poem/song. I’m sure your teacher will be really impressed!

Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity

  1. Listen to the song/poem ‘There was an old woman…’
  2. use the template to create your own poem – FOOD CHAIN STYLE!

Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.

Step 4: Extension and follow on activities/challenges (optional)

Challenge:

To present a video of yourself singing/saying the song/poem of your version of the food chain. This can be completed and uploaded on Hwb/ J2e5/seesaw.
