Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils

In this activity there is a video approximately three minutes to support the learning.

The main activity can be completed offline.

 

Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information

Throughout his life Kyffin Williams has painted the landscape of North Wales and the people who live there. His love and admiration shine through his drawing and painting as well as through his writing. His paintings are created with thick paint, and the bold, sculptural shapes of his palette knife. Through this task you will learn to use a variety of techniques used by Kyffin to create your own artwork.

First read through the PowerPoint ‘Kyffin Williams information’ to learn about the life of Kyffin Williams.

After reading through the PowerPoint watch the video to learn more about the life of Kyffin Williams.

Use the ‘Kyffin Williams activities’ to explore the different techniques used by the artist. The activities provide opportunities to explore close observation of his work, drawing, painting, collage and extended activities including the use of ICT.

Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity

Activity 1

Choose from the following activities to explore the techniques used by Kyffin Williams. You can do as many as you like.

  • Close observation – Make a viewfinder.
    • Using your viewfinder
  • Mark making
    • Making tones
  • Tone and colour
    • Colour mixing
  • Recipe for thick paint
  • Making a collage
  • Paint a landscape picture

Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.
