  • Andy Goldsworthy was born in England July 1956 and grew up working on farms.
  • He graduated from university with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1978.
  • Since then, he has been creating art all around the world, in England, Scotland, Japan, Australia, and the United States.
  • Andy Goldsworthy currently lives in Scotland.
  • He almost always uses found materials to make art.

Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity

Activity 1

Having listened to Andy Goldsworthy talking about his work, read some facts about him and viewed some of his artwork you are now going to write a biography about his life.

Remember to plan your work before you start writing. You can always do some more research if you want some more facts about Andy Goldsworthy.

Key points to remember when writing a biography:

  • A biography is about a person’s life
  • It includes interesting facts about that person’s life
  • Facts are organised into groups e.g. the person’s early life, what they are famous for etc.
  • Facts are usually presented in chronological order.
  • Write in paragraphs, each paragraph includes;
  • topic sentence, facts, transitions and closing sentence
  • Opening paragraph – starts your biography
  • Closing paragraph – ends your biography
  • Timeline can be used to add more information
  • Portrait – Draw a portrait of the person or use a picture of them

Write your biography about Andy Goldsworthy and then check to see if you have used all the features above.

Activity 2

Make your own artwork in the style of Andy Goldsworthy.

Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 4.
