Traditional Mexican crafts
A God’s eye (in Spanish, Ojo de Dios) is a spiritual object made by weaving a design out of yarn upon a wooden cross. Often several colours are used. They are commonly found in Mexican and Mexican American communities, among both Indigenous and Catholic peoples.
God’s Eyes originate from the Huichol Indians of Mexico’s Sierra Madre. The Huichol bring flowers, arrows, feathers, prayer bowls, god’s eye (tsikuri), and other symbolic gifts to deities in sacred caves in the hope of the return of guidance and protection.
Watch the video to get you started. Although this video is about nine minutes long you don’t need to watch it all.
