  • To know some of the Ancient Greek gods and goddesses.
  • To write a character description.

Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils

There is a twelve page PowerPoint to read for this activity.

The main activity can be completed offline and on different days.

Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information

The Ancient Greeks believed in many gods and goddesses. The Greeks built beautiful temples, like the Parthenon, to honour their gods and goddesses. In Greek myths, the gods and goddesses sometimes act like normal people. They need to eat, drink and sleep. They can be happy one minute and angry the next. They fall in love and get married. They play tricks on each other. They argue and fight with each other.Unlike people, however, the Greek gods and goddesses had magical powers. Some of the gods could change into animals or hurl lightning bolts. The Greeks also believed that the gods were immortal, which means they live forever.

The Greeks also believed that the gods and goddesses lived on a mountain that rose high above the clouds, called Mount Olympus.

Today we are going to find out a little bit about each of the Greek gods and goddesses. Read through the PowerPoint below.

Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity

Activity 1 – Choose one of the gods or goddesses that you have just read about.

If you were an ancient Greek, what do you think the god or goddess would look like?

  • Draw a picture of the god or goddess you have chosen.
  • Write a character description of your god or goddess.

Remember your character description should be detailed enough to paint a picture in the readers’ mind of:

  • What that person looks like.
  • What their personality is like.
  • What they are good at or responsible for.

Activity 2 – If you were a god or goddess what would you be the god or goddess of and why?

  • Write a short character description for your new god or goddess.

Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.
