Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils

In this activity there is a video (approximately six minutes) to watch and make notes to support the learning.

The main activity can be completed offline.

Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information

The activity will be to write a historical text of the Olympics. Historical text explains and retells facts about the past that has historical meaning.

Start by watching and making notes on the video below:

 

What did you think about the Olympics of the past?

Would you have liked to have taken part back then?

Which sport would you have chosen if you lived at that time?

Features of writing a historical account:

  • Recall is written in the past tense.
  • Introduction about who, what, when and where.
  • Include significant events.
  • Chronology (sequence of events).
  • Organise relevant information into paragraphs.

 

Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity

Activity 1: Historical text

  • Plan/organise your notes into the sections using the features above.
  • Write your historical text on the history of the Olympics.
  • Draw/ illustrate your writing.
  • Check your work ensuring you have used correct punctuation.

 

Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.
