Learning Intentions:

  • To undertake research on a topic.
  • To present findings from research.
  • To write an information text.

Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils

In this activity there is a video (approximately seven minutes) to watch and make notes. Further research will be needed.

Once the research has been completed the activities can be completed offline and on different days.

Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information

Start by watching the video and making notes, click on the link below:

 Talk about the modern day Olympics:

  • What sport would you like to do if you were in the Olympics? Why?
  • Do you prefer the sports in the winter Olympics or summer Olympics?
  • What medals do the competitors get if they come first, second or third?
  • Can you explain what the Olympic rings mean?

 Features of an information text:

  • facts
  • descriptions
  • features
  • headers and bold text to highlight sections
  • pictures/diagrams with labels can support the text by being a visual of what has been written

 

Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity

Activity 1:  Information Text

  • Read through your notes on the modern day Olympics and organise them into sections.
  • Write an informational text on the modern day Olympics.
  • Draw a picture of something linked to modern day Olympics with labels (if applicable) to support your writing.

 Activity 2: Researching one sport

  • Choose one sport from the modern Olympics and undertake research on it.
  • Present your findings in a way of your choice, for example, information text, fact file or poster.

 

Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.
