Learning Intentions:
To know how to sort animals into groups.

Step 1: Activity overview for parent, carers and pupils

In today’s activity you will be learning how to classify animals into different groups.You will need to read through the PowerPoint. However, you do not need to access all the links in the PowerPoint to complete the activity.

There also some additional videos to support learning which are optional.

The main activity can be completed on or offline.

 

Step 2: Introduction to the activity and additional information

Animals can be split into different groups vertebrates (animals with a backbone) and invertebrates (animals without a backbone). These two groups can be split again into smaller group.

Read through the PowerPoint attached to learn where the classification of animals started.

Step 3: Tasks to carry out for this activity

Activity 1

  • Make sure that you have answered the questions in the PowerPoint.

Activity 2

  • Look at the example of the classification key in the PowerPoint and recreate using paper or on J2e5.
  • Add images by drawing your own or inserting pictures in J2e5.

 

Once you have completed the task you can email anything you create (photos, documents, screenshots etc.) directly to your teacher or directly upload it to any of the available places in Step 5.

  1. Challenge: Try adding your own knowledge of animals into your classification key.
